Annotating linked models

I'm working through our first project and have the MEP file linked in to our model and everything shows up correctly but I can't annotate their items through the link. Some of our sections directly reference MEP items (PTAC units, air trunks) and they need to be noted - is there a way to note them directly using an element keynote or do they need to be manually noted?

Any additional advice on this that I might not be thinking of is also welcome ;)

You can annotate certain things in Links in RAC 2011 and even more in RAC 2012.

Which version are you using?

RAC 2011. I guess I'm just missing something then. When I use the element keynote I am able to hit all my detail components but the PTAC that is linked doesn't get me anything.
