is it possible to import a 3d city from google earth into revit? or even just import a few surrounding buidings

If they are "available" models from GE, or in the Google Warehouse, then yes--you can import them as Sketchup files
using Import or Link Cad into Revit.

I've done lots of work with this, and you are better off not importing a bunch of garbage from google warehouse, especially something as large as a city, you will surely experience slowdown or crash your computer. The best way to do this is to get the globe link plugin and the correct corresponding version of GE for which version of revit you are running. There are two ways to do it: import the underlay from GE and model the massing of the surrounding buildings yourself (best for renderings), or import the underlay, model your site, and then export your site to GE. From GE you can record flyby's and rotate your site, which will show the surrounding buildings in 3D if they are already modeled in GE, or mass the surrounding buildings if they are not. Then you can email the KMZ file from GE which has your recorded flyby's or camera angles to the client to open in their GE.
