View Full Version : 2011 Can't select interior footing

In updating my template to 2011, (yeah I'm behind) I find that I can't select footings that are under a floor. I'm in hidden line view with no floor slab in the structural model but the linked architectural model does have a floor slab which I've set to transparent in the host. So visually it looks right. I can select the exterior footing from the exterior side- not on the interior side. I can't select any interior footings. The footing and the wall it's attached to are completely inside of the view range. If I turn off the floor category entirely, then I am able to pick the footings- of course the architectural slab disappears though.

The same thing happens on a framing plan. My beam shows but I can't pick it unless I turn the roof off.

What stupid mistake am I making here?

what discipline is your view set to? if its arch or coordination you will get this behavior when setting arch slab to transparent. if its on structural you shouldnt have the problem.

we dont use the arch floors, we model the structural slabs.

I"m going to guess that you're arch model also has a floor in it. Hence it's above and you may not be able to select it without using the TAB key.
As a suggestion going forward, It's you're slab (structure) not the archies. ie You should own it. It they want a floor finish they can add carpet over the top of your slab, as they would in the field.

Thanks guys. Yes I'm set to coordination, yes it's a floor in the architectural link. I had also switched from wireframe to hidden line when I updated my template. That is the real culprit behind this. That switch cleared up some visual issues but caused this selection problem.

As far as the slab goes, our argument has always been, "The arch already drew it and wants to maintain it, so let them." I know this is one of those grey areas and has valid arguments either way but I think it's simply not worth our time.

yep.
let them maintain it all they want.
gives us a good idea of when things change and they dont tell us about it until two hours before things go out the door anyway. but we still have our slab modeled in the struc model.
