View Full Version : Rendering with no shadows - Skylight dome

Here's a quick lighting dome I prepared to help me render a project without shadows. Its basically a large dome with a single up-lighter in the centre. The light is set to provide a cool white light but you can adjust that with the normal artifical light temperature controls.

I find that sunlight introduces a warm cast and variations in colour depending on the viewing angle, where as this method gives a gently shaded lighting with even colouring that is particulary good for schematic concept type models (see Example Render 1.jpg)

Just a couple of things to note:

1) Remember to set the Lighting Scheme to Artificial only

2) You won't see any background sky or image as the dome will obscure it (obviously!) You may see the dome in the background but to be honest this hasn't been as issue for me as I tend to paste my backgrounds in afterwards anyway. The enclosed Example Render 2.jpg is not the most seamless I agree, but it did the job at the time!.

Have fun,
