We use 2002 on winxp. Our IT dept is convinced drafting staff are responsible for inadvertantly moving folders while attempting to open drawings. It was demonstrated to me how easy it would be to drag and drop whole folder structures into other folders, and no warning pops up to tell you this has occurred. I was looking for a setting to make this File selection dialog box less powerful.
If this is not possible, is my only other option buying file management software and which would you recommend?

The one huge problem with a drag & drop interface is that it allows you to drag & drop :-)
It's all too easy to make this kind of error using Windows Explorer (I know it happens in our company!), so don't be too easily convinced that it's only CAD users who are causing the problem.
Unfortunately, the only solution is an EDMS, which can be expensive if you have a lot of users (it's an 'everyone or no-one' thing).
If you're looking for an EDMS make sure you select one which is designed to handle drawing files. Some do it much better than others. We don't use one at the moment due to the numbers involved, but the best one I've seen so far is CONISIO (do a Google search).

The moving folder problems can be sorted by changing file permissions on the folder in Windows NT/2000 Server - you can stop people from deleting things, only allowing them to create new files and ammend existing ones. This is a much simpler (and free) alternative to EDMS.
