Hi,

I have been having trimming issues with both the trim, and trim all command. Most of the time when I am trimming a flattened spline crossing a line or polyline. The command seems to have a mind of it's own, sometimes trimming where it should, sometimes past the intersection, and sometimes erasing the whole line.

I have tried extending the intersecting line to, and even through the cune to cut, and still the result is a mystery. This is all done in 2D, and everything seems to be on the same plane. ( I don't see why it wouldn't be.

Sometimes I have to use the break command to finally get the result of what the trim should give me.

Can anyone help?

is edgemode set to 0? is your geometry really far away from 0,0,0?

If you select nothing as cutting objects, everything in the drawing is selected, whether visible or not. This will give unexpected results.

I thought only the objects visible from the current view are used for it to not give unexpected results. :D I'll check on that.

Thanks for the reply,
Yes, I checked the edgemode, and it is zero. and the geometry is not really at some crazy location. This function used to be one of my most helpful, until one time a while ago it for some reason locked up during a trim all of a imported .dxf drawing. (Muliti- layered). Since then it has been unreliable on anything but basic, no brainer trim jobs. I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling yet, but I might do that and see if it helps.

try to repair it before an uninstall/reinstall. Its quicker, and it might (strong emphasis on might) solve your problem.

Yes, I tried repairing, and that didn't seem to help. I am working on a project now, and am trying to trim an intersection of two splines, which have been "flattened" into polylines. One polyline dead-ends into the other, and I cannot trim the other line at all. I have shift-selected it to extend, and it still wont trim. The comment in the command line says" No intersection in the interior of the curve". The dead-ending polyline dead-ends on the exterior of the curve of the polyline to be trimmed.

Does this make any sense?

i have found it necessary to sometimes use the break command, then erase the portion I no longer need. it may be a hassle, but it is at least some form of work-around.

Have you tried extending the dead-end line to beyond the other one and using both to trim each other?

[I know it's extra work but it might provide a clue.]
