View Full Version : Wall wrapping problem

I'm having trouble with a wrapping detail at a window reveal.

The problem is that I can't get the plaster layer to stop against my window frame. It overlaps it.

I've attached a PDF of the detail I'm trying to achieve.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Paul

Try having a look at this thread. Post again if you still gave questions.

Dimitri,

Thanks for that. I already have a Reference plane with 'Wall Closure' positioned on the line of the exterior core bounary.

The problem is that my internal blockwork wraps correctly to the Reference plane, but the plaster layer ignores the window frame and just wraps through it.

Is there any way to force just the plaster to stop short of the window frame?

Make sure that the layer is set to wrap (wall type properties) and that the wall type has Wrap at Inserts set to both exterior and interior (wall type properties)

I have all my wraps set up but still can't resolve the problem.

I've attached a Revit file which shows where I'm at currently.

You can see that the plaster and render both wrap behind the window frame. I want them to butt into the frame.

Thanks

Paul

Paul,
you only had the one closure ref plane and that means that both interior and exterior layers of the wall will wrap to that one plane. If you add another closure plane the interior layers will wrap to one side, the exterior side will wrap to the other.
Note that core layers can't wrap so if you want the configuration in your sample file (with the interior concrete block wrapping behind the frame you'll need to take it out of the core of the wall to control it's wrap properties.

Thats useful thanks, but how would I make the concrete block and plaster wrap to different points?

I think it is not possible to make it exactly as in your .pdf with just closure planes and wraps activated, because the finish layers need to wrap beyond the plane where the frame of the window and the masonry meet, and with their inner faces aligned. See if this solution works for you (closure plane + symbolic lines in window family).

I've tried another method to model the window reveals as part of the family. Could you take a look at my attachments and advise if it is possible to remove the line that appears where an object within a family meets the host object.

AFAIK the only option you've got is to use the linework tool to override the lines in each view.

I'v noticed you've posted a number of issues (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=133906 http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=133907 ) all relating to the cavity wall construction you are doing. Although each problem has a solution (OK, if you want to call them workarounds, go ahead ;)) all of them so far could be managed a little easier by using separate walls for the exterior and interior wythes. Just a suggestion but it might be something to consider.
