Rooms not placed

We are collaborating with another firm on a Federal Courthouse project. The other firm is doing the core and shell, we are doing the courtroom planning.

The GSA requires a lot of information early in the life of the project. In fact, the GSA provides a template that includes a lot of room parameters for them to do their project reviews.

Well, they did. We are now revising the building design to accomodate the GSA review. The building has changed enough that we would like to erase all the layouts and start over. Trouble is, if we do a complete wipeout, we lose hours and hours of GSA data entered into those parameters. Anyone who has worked with the GSA knows exactly what this means.

If we leave the rooms in the room schedule we get "NOT PLACED". The GSA data remains intact. Is there a way to draw new layouts using the existing rooms? The program hasn't changed, so there is a one-to-one matchup.

When you go to place a room, there is a drop down that says 'Room:', and by default it's set to 'New'. If you click on that drop down, then you'll have access to all of the rooms not placed in your project. See attachment.

I don't see a problem with that approach. If you go to VG > Rooms, there are two options there that might help on this. One of them is "fill color", the other one is "reference". Either one will help you see the little squares that represent "orphaned" rooms on the screen, after you erase the old layout. Put the rooms away, and move the room tags close to the rooms. Then, when you have the new layout, you can "drag and drop" each room to the correspondent new enclosed space, and the room will immediately adjust to the new boundaries. Revit will issue a warning that the tag is away, and show you the button to "move tag to room", which will leave things back to normal. Might take some time, but nothing compared to losing the information already contained in the existing rooms.
