I am having trouble in a particular drawing with selected objects being deselected whenever panning within a locked viewport in paperspace.

It seems that whenever the [Viewport is view-locked. Switching to Paper space.\Switching back to Model space] process occurs, any object that has been selected is deselected.

Is there a setting in autocad 2012 to alter this - all other drawings seem to function correctly.

Are you panning with the middle mouse button?

Yes I am panning with middle button - the same thing happens when using the old fashioned keyboard command though.

The old fashioned keyboard command PAN even used transparently always deselects. But the pan using the middle button must not. If this is an isolated case with a specific drawing, is it possible you can post the offending drawing for us to test if we experience the same. You may remove all objects and leave the offending viewport if drawing contents are classified.

BIG bump on this, just started on some of our drawings outta the blue casing havok amongst some users here.

Summary and more info to what already has been posted;

When group (window or individually) selecting objects outside a command (think grips) through a locked viewport, using the middle mouse pan command will deselect the objects.

-PAN and regular PAN deselect the objects by default, however, typical AutoCAD behaviour keeps the selected objects after using the middle mouse pan.

More info:
- Unlocking the viewport allows "normal" middle mouse panning and retains selections, this isn't (IMHO) a viable solution however, as viewports need to be anchored.
- Seems to be drawing specific, some file have this issue, some do not.
- Tried all PICK variables that I know of to no avail.
- Copying the layout copies the problem
- Pasting all objects from a layout to a new layout in a new drawing also copies the problem
- New viewports in the drawing have the same problem
- Tried comparing a readout of two different files with the same standards using Fcompare and ACADINFO, nothing stood out as a possible variable
- recovering, auditing and purging (oh my!) did squat

ANY help or ideas, leads, random thoughts, Freudian slips, would be appreciated at this time. All searches came up with threads like this one here, started and never resolved. Most complaints circle around ACAD '11 / 12.

Thanks in advance!

For those following this I have opened a support case with AutoDesk, I will post the solution (if we come up with one) when we get it figured out.

Solution as per AutoDesk:

I was able to locate a Development write-up for the behavior you're experiencing. It has to do with the presence of dense hatch patterns within the drawings. I've recorded a short video (with audio commentary) that demonstrates the behavior. It can be seen here:

http://screencast.com/t/ScBSxZJOjc3

As our software engineers already have this on their plate, I've linked this case to their existing write-up for it. As such, I'll now close this Support case, as per process. However, if you find that there appears to be some other cause for the behavior in your drawings, reply to this email (which will cause the case to reopen) and attach some sample drawings and I can check them out here."

Apparently it has been solved for 2013 release, and will be added to 2012 as a service pack.

Also FYI the hatch pattern can be in either paper space or model space and will cause the same problem.
