Excel used to create a Revit model.

Does anyone have any information about importing an excel file or database that can be used to actually create a building in Revit. I am looking for any examples you have; Links, API, or other first hand knowledge. Thanks

Take a look at the Revit Extensions for 2012, located in the subscription area of the Autodesk website.

I have no experience using it, but below is an overview from the help section:

Using the Excel® based model generation extension, you can generate a Revit® model based on the data defined in an MS Excel sheet. The environment of the MS Excel sheet enables automating the process of structure definition.
Revit objects available in the sheet:
Levels
Columns
Beams
Walls
Spread footings
The extension offers 2 methods of defining / modifying a structure model:
Entering parameters directly in the MS Excel sheet (generation of many rows in the sheet).
Manual definition in the dialogs used for defining parameters of individual structure objects (definition is performed separately for each object).
With the extension you can generate a model by performing typical operations available in MS Excel sheets, such as copying and using formulas. You can also save and load structure models as XLS files, creating a library of examples.
Enter correct data (names of families, materials used in Revit) into individual columns of an MS Excel sheet. Use the dialogs for inserting or adding structure objects to select names loaded directly from Revit.
Before a structure model is generated in Revit, verification of the data defining the structure model takes place (see Verification of a structure model).
