Adjust soft insulation to wall thickness?

I just installed the 30 days demo of RA2012 and realized the need to view beginners vids on youtube...just one thing I got stuck on directly was the soft insulation. I can't adjust it to the wall thickness!? I can extend the insulation lengthwise but not it's thickness!?
I will lay my optimistic approach (a.k.a. clicking wildly around) aside and start the proper way from base 1.

You will see when you select the Batt Insulation drawn in the detail that there is a field in the top bar for width. You can change it once it has been selected. You usually set the desired width before drawing it.
