Is there a way of right-clicking an object instance (door, window, etc) in a schedule, and going straight to its properties to edit them. Or do I need to continue with the more convoluted method of right-clicking, "showing" the instance in at least one view, and then getting to the properties. Hope this makes sense! Thanks.

Could you include the parameter you want to edit in the schedule? Then you could just change the parameter in the schedule.

User-made parameters in a family must be shared in order to be scheduled. The OP may not want to go through the trouble of making several parameters shared, but it is an option for fastest data entry and editing.
OP what about just having both the schedule and a floor plan view open? Click the door in the schedule, and it will highlight in the plan view. Then click on the highlighted door in the plan view and its properties comes up. It wouldn't be as fast as having the parameters right there in a "working" schedule (not used on any sheets), but it would be quicker than having to click Highlight in Model and waiting for it to come up, which is sometimes a bit flaky in my experience.

You don't even need to click on the door in the plan View.
Open a Plan View and a Schedule View.
Type WT for Window Tile. (Not totally necessary, but it keeps things neater)
Click on a Row in the Schedule - you'll see it highlight in the Plan.
Now, click on the Window Title of the Plan View - not inside the View, but on the top line of the Window - where it says the View Name.
The Door you selected is still selected, but now the Properties box for it is displayed.
I haven't found any easier method. Ctrl-Tab just gets you to the next Cell in the Schedule, and the QAT Switch Windows loses the selection.
