Does anyone know why there's splotchy areas in this render? They show up more in some renders, less in others (in this same project), but always there. This one's the worst. Any help would be great. Of course, this is a vray project (and yes, I know it's underexposed).

And now I see a book poking through the bookshelf...

Phillip,

What are your Indirect Illumination settings? Here's what I typically use...

See if that helps... ;)

Wow. That takes a incredibly long time to render.

Here's the settings I was using. I have been changing the clr threshold from .1 for drafts to .001 for high quality. The original image was using .001

Guess it depends on the image size. We are typically at 1280x720. Also, interiors do take forever to render...:)

Ouch. I've got to render this at 3300x2550 for a full-page 8.5x11" print. When I get a second, I'd like to ask you about some of the settings you've got. I'm still terribly lost when it comes to vray. Thanks for your help though, Lloyd ;)

3300x2550 for a full-page 8.5x11! That's overkill my friend. You could cut that size in half and still get a good quality print. Just be sure to save as TIFF @ 300dpi. Good to go!

BTW, will you be at AU this year?

By my calcs, 8.5x11" @ 300 dpi is 3300x2550 (more if I want full bleed)... :?: I generally do it that way to be able to get huge if I want by lowering the dpi. Most of my clients view on-screen, so large renders are unnecessary, but there's this one...

Not too much worries, only need to render 1920x1080 for now (but may need to render higher later).

Read an incredibly awesome and uber-helpful explanation of the vray settings here: http://www.mintviz.com/blog/vray-render-settings-for-interior-visualisation/

I like that he went through a layman's explanation of what everything does as well as why he chooses a certain setting, instead of just telling me to change this or that.

I've gotten a decent (but noisy) draft render at 640x480 to about 5 minutes, while a super-freaking-awesome quality render of the same size at about a half hour.

Nope, no money and no time. I still haven't ever been. One day... Until then, I will have to enjoy it vicariously through you ;)
