layer colors

I have a drawing that I received from an outside company and I would like to change the layer colors to all yellow. when I go to the layer manager and select all of the layers and change to colors I receive a message that says "an exception has ocurred in a component of your application, click continue and application will ignore
object refernce not set to an instance of an object" and when I close the layer manager the layers are not changed. I then tried to select all of the objects on the screen and make sure they are by layer and they are. I looked for filters they might have used but there are none.
Can someone please help me? I nead to change these colors
force changing does work but I would rather not do it that way

Karen,

Can you post a sample of the problem drawing?
Or forward a copy to me?

Or try inserting that drawing as a block, and then exploding it in
a new drawing started from your default template.

Or try attaching as an XREF and change the colors in
the layer manager afterwards.

You could also try selecting all entities & changing their colors to yellow from the properties palette (2004/5).
