Dimensions while Worksharing

After working on a Revit model for several months on my own I have recently set the project up as file worksharing so another person can help finish the construction documents. I can edit objects, change them and save the changes to central. But when I go to add dimensions to a view I can not snap to many of the objects (specifically doors and windows) in order to dimension them. When I turn on 'Gray Inactive Worksets' all of the notes, dimensions, tags are grayed out, but I can delete or move them. What's up?

Do you mean that you are in a sheet and attempting to dimension to elements in a view on the sheet, or are you actually attempting to dimension to elements while actively working in the view?
