View Full Version : Exported linked file layers lose visibility settings.

When we DWG export a sheet with linked files in a view, the exported file has all of the linked (xref) layers turned on; regardless of their visibility settings in Revit. However, if the linked file itself is turned off in Revit it does not show up in the exported linked (xref) file - as I would expect. Has anyone else had trouble with linked visibility settings not exporting?
Thanks

A possible solution:
If you're using 7.0, you could delete the layers that you don't want visible, rather than turning them off in the visibility setting. In the resultant dwg, those layers would be gone.
If, for some reason, you need the stuff on those layers for future acad sessions, you could turn off the imported drawing as you discussed above, do the export, then insert the resultant drawing (stuff generated by Revit) as a block into the existing (dwg used for import / link in Revit) dwg & then explode, if you chose.

Thanks Andrew. I didn't know I could delete layers on linked files. I'll give it a try.

After importing the dwg (in 7.0), just highlight the imported drawing & the query layer tools pop up on the option bar above.
I think you can also do it in the import dialog if you know beforehand what layers you only want to import.

I've had this happen also, it seems like after so many open and closes, revit looses the ability to "see" the dwg. Only in some cases. I can't figure out a logical explanation or even reproduce it consistantly. If you can send the data to revit so they can address the issue.
