I have several objects of the same material that are not graphically joining. Some materials are defined as type and some as instance. Could that have anything to do with it? Thanks.

Post a pic, please!

OK, here is a similar situation. I have an in place component up against a wall. Its a generic model with the same material as the wall its up against. It doesn't show the material or join with the wall. Can i get it to? Thanks.

It may not have joined automatically (I don't think it's supposed to). Did you try manually joining them?

Here they are joined. Better, but still not what I was hoping for. There is that thinner line and still no material. I can override the material for the in-place family in that view, but I want it to do that automatically. I have had this work with a floor, create an in-place family and everything joins up perfectly. Thoughts?

Is that corbel continuous? Can it be included as an integral sweep within the wall definition?

unfortunately no. it's supporting bump-outs. Guess I could break the wall though.

I'd create the corbel as a face based generic model family with material set as a type parameter. Place it everywhere it needs to go and to join just go to a 3D view, isolate the walls and the corbels and join multiple. Select the wall and then all the corbels. Save that step until the last minute so you only need to do it once.

@Dimitri: Can you share an example. I've tried face and wall based without any luck. I'm still getting the divider line. Thanks.

Here you go Bryan.
This family is not set up as face based but the idea is the same. Shown with an in place family as well as a component family.
All I can think of is that your materials are not identical.

Hm. I'm still struggling. Attached are images of your family in my model before and after being joined. And the walls in your file and mine with the properties and edit type shown. (sorry for the gigantic screenshot). I cant find any differences and why it isn't working, but it's something in my wall. As I post this i notice that your wall 'selects' differently. The whole wall is shaded blue, mine just the outline and hatch. Thoughts?

Bryan,
the gigantic screenshot allowed me to see that your view is set to wireframe. Try changing it to hidden line and magic should happen ;)

HAhaha... The magic has happened! It's always something simple like that. I was going to explore the highlight situation when I get back from lunch. Thanks for your help!
