A consultant asked me for an exploded copy of a linked file that I had sent to them in dwg form. The rvt file contained links to other rvt files, not to imported dwgs. As you know, when exported, this creates a separate file for every linked file, as well as the sheets, and one file that contains all these XRefed. I really don't know why they would want an exploded file anyway.

Being the nice , easy going type of guy I am, I said No, we can't do that! Deal with it, or we'll find someone else who will ! Whadda think we pay you for. ( I have this amazing ability to get on famously well with my consultants )

Then I got to wondering if it was possible ? Can't really see anything there in the export settings that would do it, but , maybe it can be done ?

Just a guess, but what if you exported to dxf?

Had a similar need come up today. I have a group of site sections with townhomes and exporting to .dwg produces 30(!) files. I tried exporting as a .dxf file and it throws an error every single time. Drat and double-drat! Please help.

Thanks,

John K.

Our civil consultants can't stand our exported revit files because none of the curbs or curved lines are poly lines so they basically have to redraw them if they want them to be a pline. I basically wanted to say the same thing you said, but instead placed a request for like linestyles joined at endpoints to be exported as a polyline for them.

I heartily agree!

If the developers can translate Revit dimensions into autocad dimension objects (which I've never seen in any other program) then they should certainly be able to have an arc translate into an arc! This is one of the biggest complaints that I get regarding Revit exported data.

I'm pretty sure ArchiCad can recognize Autocad dimensions.

I agree with sbrown: loops should be exported as polylines, it would make life so much easier.
I also would like room and area boundaries to be exported as polylines...

Is it my imagination or can Revit NOT do Jack **** with .dwg and .dxf files since the takeover? It seems the <<Explode imported>> button is purely for decoration now. We still keep an Acad Lt. license around to help with this sort of thing but it looks useless as well...

</end rant>

John k, you are right explode is almost worthless unless you want to see your project bogg down to an unuseable mess. I've been sending in dwg data for a long time now anything from simple details like window heads, jamb and sills to site plans. Tip for now is don't explode, do what you are doing and modify in acad then link or import. What you could do is have your guys that are against revit do these kind of things for you.
