HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have created a mass object. In the mass edit mode, have changed the material to blue paint, renamed it and all. Looks all fine.
When I insert it into the model, it still appears white painted wood. Have tried changing the parameters. Still no joy.
Why is this?
