View Full Version : Removed linked files (CAD) still visible under Imported Categories in Visibility/Graphic Overrides menu

I have been experiencing this issue for several weeks now on this large-scale project we are working on. Our group is still in the process of building up a Revit model, that we are going to continue working on it with a larger group in the construction phase. Therefore we are working with Worksharing.
With the local copies of our model, there is a CAD file listed under the Imported Categories in Visibility/Graphic Overrides menu which was previously 'removed' from the Revit model. This CAD file is no longer listed in the 'Manage Links' window, so I prove that the linked file is removed from our model.
In general there is not any problem or notification popping out about this issue, and we carry on our work as normal. However, this issue is annoying when it comes to managing our linked CAD files and their VG settings.
Any further insight into this issue is appreciated.

"...This CAD file is no longer listed in the 'Manage Links' window, so I prove that the linked file is removed from our model...."
Just a wee point that if the cad file was inserted, but not linked, then it doesn't show in the Manage Links Tab.
You're right thou - if they came from a linked cad file they should disappear if you unlink them

Thanks for your reply Alex. The problem was caused by another user who imported a file at a certain point, and then snychronized his local copy with the central. Therefore I can see this .cad file in Visibility/Graphic overrides but not in Manage Links. And I cannot find this imported file in the model since it was inserted by current view only option checked.
So your guess was right. Now it is time for me to go through all the views in the model, and try to figure out which one might have this import.

www.revittools.com have a product that will help you. They have a downloadable demo version
(Haven't used it myself, but have heard it does the trick)

This add-in seems to work well, but it is not able to locate this files within the model. Locating an imported CAD file, that has been imported with 'Current View Only' checkbox on is an issue, even when you use Revittools.
Deleting the import and importing it back into the desired location is not an option for certain complicated cases.

Have you checked that the CAD file isn't nested inside some other CAD file? There are many sloppy CAD users.
Remember, many CAD users are only interested in how the drawing looks when plotted. Any crazy file organization is OK, as long as it plots right.
Revit, on the other hand, almost forces good practices. Otherwise, the reports drawn from the data would be unreliable.

I had this problem once when I imported to current view only, then deleted that view. I found a blog that posted this solution: > Project Location>Location>Site>Duplicate(makes new site)>Make current>Delete the old one.

Does it mean that, creating a new site location resets the imported CAD files in the model?

Going from memory here......It creates a new site plan view. The new view created will have your lost import shown, if this is how it got lost. You should archive your project and do this in a copy to see if this is the problem.

Gurhan, my apologies for replying to your old post but do you still remember if revittools was free? Alex's link doesn't seem to work anymore
After trying different add-ins, I'm using DWG Explorer (http://rv-boost.com/revit-plugins/dwg-explorer/) now since it can locate and remove "current view only" DWGs very quickly. It can also delete imported categories directly from VG if necessary. I'm still on the lookout for free alternatives though
