View Full Version : Exporting Sheets to AutoCAD

We have a project where the client has requested AutoCAD drawings of our sheets. When we export from Revit, the sheet size in AutoCAD is retained; however, the margins are not. AutoCAD seems to be pushing everything down on the page (see attached).

I have tried just about everything I can think of to correct this, but nothing seems to work.

I am hoping someone else has encountered this before and has a fix. I am not sure if this is a Revit export issue or an AutoCAD translation issue.

It's a page-setup issue. Most of your CAD files were probably started from your CAD template, which would already have the required page setups in it. When you export a file to CAD from Revit, the new CAD file wasn't created using your CAD template, it's just a generic CAD file with the Revit data converted to .dwg format. You'll have to go to the page setup menu (in CAD) and import the required page setups, then apply them to the layout tabs.

I've had that problem before. Most sheets would export just fine from Revit to Autocad, but a few the layout in Autocad would be bigger than in Revit. I think the problem in our case was that one or more views on the sheet in Revit had extents that went beyond the page. Sometimes an axon with a section box would have a much larger crop region. It would look like the view was on the page, but in fact it went off the page quite a bit. When exporting that sheet, it will take into account the extents of all the views. Just see how big each view on your sheet really is by selecting each one in turn to see if you have the same problem.

Thanks. This did the trick.

Is there a way to at least get the page size to match that in the Revit file? I recently exported a number of Sheets on a project where the title block was 48x36 and was surprised to find that all of the exports were set up for a 42x30 sheet (and for the larger sheet to plot to fit - yoiks!). I can certainly modify the page setup after the fact, but would prefer not to have to do so when there are hundreds of files to process.

I have tried this with Revit 2018 and AutoCad 2018 and have had no success. Any updates on this issue?
