View Full Version : 2012 Still no way to make linked Revit wall be room bounding?

Just want to make sure I'm not missing something. We have a large existing facility with a small renovation in one area, and then a large addition on the opposite side of the facility, which are being completed as separate bid packages. I have each building/project as separate Revit files, and have them linked together. Do I still have to place Room Bounding lines in the Addition file where the existing walls occur in the other Revit file?
Seems odd that we can do so much with linked files - room tagging, scheduling, workset control, etc. but can't make the 3D geometry in the linked file be room bounding in the host file.

Pick the link, edit the type, and check Room Bounding. Should work.

You still might not be able to schedule certain categories within rooms from the linked model. Rooms would have to be duplicated in your host project.

Could be a Phase Setting issue as well. Make sure the Link is checked"room bounding"
as mentioned in the other reply.

Ah yes, I missed the Room Bounding option in the link's type properties.

I just ran into this again on a shell/tenant fitout project, and had to search and find this thread to remember how to do it. Wonder why linked files aren't set to Room Bounding by default? Or at least have a check box available with the other options like Center/Center, Shared Coordinates, etc.

Because that would be a smart way of doing it. What I love is people forgetting what workset they're on when linking Revit files, and also remembering to pin links (either Revit, or CAD).

Because checking room bounding for a link adds a burden on the model, yet another thing it has to calculate... but adding the checkbox to the linking dialog might be a good idea.
