What is the best practice for either importing or linking a consultants Revit Model (v2012) into a pre-defined template with views setup for export to Navisworks (v2012).
Ex: We are a construction company that provides a variety of BIM services. One such service is 3D spatial coordination. On a typical project we receive four different Revit models: Architectural, Structural, Mechanical, Electrical. Each of the models utilize worksets and each consultant has the other three models linked into their own model. Our company is establishing a template file with multiple 3D views for specific elements for the purpose of exporting just those element. eg: Structural Columns, Floors, Curtain Systems, Fire Sprinker, Duct, etc. Our template also has multiple schedules setup to to quantity takeoff.
I have attempted multiple methods of importing the Consultant model into our file and also importing our file settings/views/schedules into the consultant model but haven't found a quick and easy method. We are using the Navisworks export plug-in for Revit from the Add-Ins-->External-->External Tools on the Ribbon.
The method I am currently using is to open one consultant model and open our template. Unload the links from the consultant model. Then use Manage-->Settings-->Transfer Project Standards. and bring in view templates that are setup for each 3D view. Duplicate a 3D view in the consultant model, and apply a view template. Repeat for the remaining 3D views needed (about 30).
When we have attempted to export a linked file into our template then export, the exported Navisworks file shows the whole building and not the section box area or the filtered model categories that were setup in the 3D view.
I have also attempted 10 other methods:
1. Model file importing Template:
a. Insert-->Import-->Insert form file-->Views
b. Result: Import list only shows schedules, legends and drafting views. No 3D or other views.
2. Model file importing Template
a. Insert-->Load from library-->Load as Group
b. Result: Does not work.
3. Model file importing Template
a. Try to drag and drop 3D views from one file to other
b. Result: Did not support drag & drop
4. Model file importing Template
a. Ctrl+C 3D view in template, Modify-->Clipboard-->Paste (Ctrl+V) in model.
b. Result: Cannot copy one view from one file to another.
5. Template importing Model:
a. Manage-->Settings-->Transfer Project Standards
b. Result: Only imports tags, types, 2d elements and settings for views
c. This method was used in the opposite way to find the successful method.
6. Template importing Model:
a. Insert-->Import-->From File-->Views:
b. Result: Import list only shows schedules, legends and drafting views. No 3D or other views.
7. Template importing Model:
a. Insert-->Load from library-->Load as Group
b. Result: placing model is problem, and
8. Template importing Model:
a. Insert-->Link-->Link Revit
b. Result: Export has problem of showing all of the model, not just the exported items.
9. Template importing Model:
a. Try to drag and drop 3D views from one file to other
b. Result: Did not support drag & drop
10. Template importing Model:
a. Ctrl+C 3D view in template, Modify-->Clipboard-->Paste (Ctrl+V) in model.
b. Result: Cannot copy one view from one file to another.
Is there a better and easier method? Thanks.
