I'm having an issue figuring out how to make a relief panel in a wall. its going to be double stud wall with dry wall each side. the relief is the depth of an entire stud. so from floor to 7' would be a single stud with dry wall both side then from 7' to deck will be double stud with dry wall each side

i hope that is a clear description.

How about this: Create your double-stud wall all the way up. Edit the profile of the wall and punch a hole in it where you want the recess. Then draw single-stud wall in that gap up to 7 feet. Would that work for your?

You could also try :

1. An in-place Void to cut a "niche". (see attached family.)
2. A "frameless window family, that only cuts back 7" into the wall.( maybe a bit tricky?)
3. A wall opening.

cheers

thanks i will give these suggestions a shot

damon.sidel will this method clean the edges so the painted finish will show in the rendering?

You would probably need to "paint" the edges/returns of the walls where they are exposed for rendering.

Cliff may very well be right, but I don't know. Have you tried it, yet?
