View Full Version : Windows XP Zero Placeholder for Ordered Filenames

From the .......

"I could have sworn dept."In our previous O/S, Win NT, our filenames were given a three digit sheet number with a format of 001,002, etc. We did this to keep sheets in numerical order. If not formatted this way, sheets 20-29 would come between sheets 2 & 3. This doesn't seem to be the case in our NEW O/S, Win XP!

QUESTIONS

Has anyone else noticed this behavior? :-o
Is it a new feature in Win XP?
Can we change filenames to no placeholder zeros w/o fear of losing sequential ordering in XP and above?

Hi Clint

Please note I've *moved* this thread from the CAD Mgmt. General (http://forums.augi.com/forumdisplay.php?f=119) Forum to this one as I feel this particular Forum is a more appropriate place for such a topic.

Thanks, Mike

Just tested this in XP Pro. It seems to keep them in the correct order.

Don't know if I would stop using the placeholders. Even though XP seems to do this right, other programs that you might use to work with drawing might not. Also if you send these files to someone using an older version of windows, they would get the jumbled up file list.
