Is there a simple way to crop topography that has been loaded into Revit via a points file? I just want this thing hewn down into a cube, but deleting the points in 3D mode is pretty unpredictable.

Background:

Instead of just sending me the topography for the lot and block that we are focusing on, a planning department sent topographic information for what seems to be the entire township. I didn't think twice about loading the entire file into Revit without editing it beforehand, because it's easy enough to crop out all of the excess topo in the 2D views.

My problem is mainly with the 3D view. The little house that we are renovating looks like a pimple on a sea of topography. The section box seems to be the only way to crop the topo, but sometimes I want to use the section box for other things! This excess topo is becoming a big nuisance. It slows down the 3D view and causes navigation through the view to take longer.

I really don't want to delete the topo and reload a modified CAD file, because the current topo is in all of my design options, and I've done a lot of work around it.

I'm not sure why, but deleting points via the "Edit Surface" command sometimes deletes points that I didn't select. Hopefully, there is another strategy that I can employ.

Arrgh.

Side-Note: Other than this aggravating hang-up, I love the fact that Revit can generate topography via an AutoCAD points file. It's so helpful to the design process when we need to do an outdoor renovation, and we can get actual topographic information from the township!

Could subregions possibly solve my problem?

Use the Split Surface tool. Sketch your desired boundary. The excess can be placed on a separate workset or hidden by element or filter in each view.

It worked! Thank you.

Since I'd already copied the topo into all of my site options, I had to split the surface four times... but I was able to copy and paste aligned to the current view. I'm still learning as I go with design options....

Thanks for your help!
