I'm starting a new project in Revit 2011 that will be the first time working with existing conditions in the design. I'm wondering which will be the best method/least complicated way of setting this project up. I've already worked on several projects in Revit but they were all new construction completely. I'm aware that Revit already has existing and new construction phases but are there any other phases that I should consider making besides a demolition phase? Any help/suggestions is always appreciated. Thanks

Do not create a demolition phase, demolition is new construction, classic noob mistake. Use your phase filters to control the graphics. We set ours up to show new const. shaded (poche) on plans, and existing condition shaded in elevations, using the phase filters.

Rename "existing" to a date - June 1980 and "new" to the date of construction - July 2012. I find that if you do it this way it is easier to understand what should be on which date for view control in each view. Which leads to the next, make sure to create duplicated views to display how you want to document the project. Revitaoist hit it on the nail, you do not need "demo"...
