Is there a way to set the measure tool to give x and y measurements instead of overall length and angle?

Thanks

No replies after 56 views? Maybe I didn't state the problem clearly. I'm doing precast concrete panels. I like to confirm correct panel alignment. This is simple in autocad. Just use the measure command and I can get the x-direction offset from one panel edge to another, even if they are not on the same level. In Revit the measure command gives me a total distance and an angle, which is useless for what I need. Is there a setting to change to get measure to give me a vertcal distance and a horizontal distance?

If your panels are walls or instances of a solid family with parameters, then the properties dialog box can show you the height and the length of the wall or family.

Could you use the align tool? Then you could align panels vertically or horizontally and even lock them together. Taking that one step more, you could align panels to a reference plane and be able to move the panels by moving the reference plane.

Align to plane? Maybe that is what I should be doing. I'm new to Revit. Thanks for the suggestion.

Now instead of inserting two planes, one on each side of the column line, is there a way to use the column line itself? Some sort of offset from the grid line. I use both walls and generic models for the panels.

What is your method for creating the panels?

I either use a basic wall and add sweeps or make a new generic model family.
