I'm running Acad 2004 on my home computer whilst having been accustomed to 2005 at work. Using the Express Tools - Command Alias Editor i have been trying to re-assign all the shortcut keys that i prefer but nothing seems to happen. For instance i go to Express / Tools / Command Alias Editor / Add, then try to change the letter T to become 'trim' rather than 'mtext', then i hit OK and it says 'Your Autocad aliases have been saved and the current Autocad session has been updated', hit OK again. Then i type T and it still comes up with the 'mtext' command, and even when i go back and check the Command Alias Editor the changes that i have made are still there but they just don't work. I know this the way i should be doing it because that is how i did it when i set up 2005 at work. Anyone else had similar problems, is it a 2004 bug perhaps, any help/guidance would be much appreciated. Cheers

Hi

Once you exit the AutoCAD Alias Editor has a file called "Acad.pgpBackup of" been created in the same directory/folder as your original "Acad.pgp" file?

+

Instead of using the AutoCAD Alias Editor you can use NotePad (or any plain ASCII Text Editor) to edit the "Acad.pgp" file directly.

Check out the following page (scroll to the very bottom) -

AutoCAD 2004 (http://betaprograms.autodesk.com/history/autocad_2004_history.htm)

Have a good one, Mike

Thanks, but it still doesn't seem to work, i located the the 'acad.pgp' file in C:Program FilesAutoCAD 2004backup and the changes that i made are actually appearing in the script of that text file, but the commands still do not function properly. I'm absolutely stumped at the moment.

Hi

Give the following thread a browse, talks about things like "findfile" "ReInit" etc. They could prove useful to your current issue / problem -

Solid shortcut command (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=6530)

Have a good one, Mike

Do you have more than one version of ACAD installed on your system? If so, Alias Editor will edit the version which was installed first. So if you have 2000 & 2004 installed, it will edit the 2000 pgp making you think you're doing something, when in reality, you're going now where fast.

Do a search on your computer and see if you have more than one acad.pgp file

This seemed to be the closest to the problem I am having.
One of my detailers in Waukegan called and said his aliases are acting up.
He has modified his acad.pgp file, and now his shortcut keys are acting up.
For instance, he uses LF for layer freeze. But when he enters LF it cancels.
Funny thing, just seems to be the f key.

So does he have the F key as a shortcut for cancel?

No, he has f as fillet.
I had him replace the .pgp file with the original acad.pgp and still the problem continues.
I had him do a repair and still the same problem.
My next step would be a complete reinstall, which I prefer to be a last resort.

Does his pgp file link "LF" to the Express Tools "LAYFRZ" command?

It did, up until today.
We have TightVNC here, so I can log into his computer from my office in Dallas.
When in mtext or dtext or anywhere else, the F keys works normal.
When at the command line, any use of the F key is an automatic cancel.
Type DDF - immediately after typing F it cancels.

Is it purely an acad problem? What happens in, say, Word?

Everything is fine in word and other apps.
Only happens with the F key, and only on the command line.

~thinking out loud~

The pgp file defines F *Fillet and you would notice a later line that defines F *^c^c

What routines have been apploaded (probably in the start-up suite)? Might someone have installed a prank routine that way?

I have thought of the prank thing as well.
Here's where I am now.
If you hold the Shift key, type F, enter, you get the fillet command.
Type F without holding Shift, and cancel.
This is for ALL F key strokes.
I am lost on this one. The F key works fine, but ONLY if you hold the Shift key.

I may have missed it. Did you ever say which version he was using?

Have you checked the Accelerators section of the menu?
Do you get upper/lower F/f with CAPs off/on?

He is on 2005, I haven't loaded 2006 yet.

Well, I am stumped.
He went ahead and reloaded, now it works fine, just a bug someplace.
Thanks for everyones input, now I think a cold beer is in order.
