We were solicited today from A Production Builder unprovided about what we thought about Revit. Their primary interest is in the BIM of course since their all about the numbers (ie. Pricing and managing work flow at all levels of construction). Is any one working with production builders? If so what roll is Revit playing in taking things to a level beyond what they have been a custom to?

This builder is currently in the process of orginzing it's self to grow, so they are spending a lot of effort to standardized as many aspects of their process so they can have greater control over their products.

What is a production builder?

One of the biggest users here is HBGC Group a construction company with a big CAD department. They use Revit in all sorts of ways and have been looking at making best use of ODBC to implement their control of pricing and so on.

A production builder is someone who develops and builds tract housing. Buyers get to pick from Model A, B, C or D with optional upgrades X, Y or Z and finish packages 1, 2, or 3. And just to show that the builders have a sense of humor, they advertise these as "custom homes".
