I was thinking of using Design Options for laying out some plan options in a subdivision project I am starting. The project has 3 different base plans and each base plan has a few different options. Is the design options tool meant for something like this or is it meant for more preliminary design documentation. I am new to this stuff and I don't want to spin my wheels using a tool for something its not meant for. Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

I think you'll find it works great for this type of work.
Set up a separate project for each base plan, & use design options to show the optional stuff. When setting up your sheets, copy the views that you want to see the options in, and then in view / visibility, change the design option setting from automatic to the option you want to see in that view.
Once you've signed a customer & they've selected the options, you can then select as primary & get rid of the others.
