Does anyone else share this problem. Has anyone been able to create any rendered elevations worth a damn without the program crashing or taking an unreasonable forever to happen. and when it's done it has no shade or shadows, sky the colors suck.

It basically reads very flat. I thought we were supposed to be able to create these nice looking images.

Yes, you can use the camera tool, but uncheck the "perspective" box. Place the camera where you want to view the elevation from and you'll get your view. You can modify the crop region of the new camera view to include everything you want in the view. Then render it. You can modify sky, shadows, everything using the settings and image size tools under the rendering tab.

As far as your computer crashing or taking unreasonably long, maybe you need a new one?? :D

Hope this helps!

Yes, those images were most likely created using the method I just described. It works pretty well...

Another way to get straight on elevations to render:

Create any 3D view. Go to View pulldown, then Orient. Now select north, south, east, west, by plane, or By other View, which will allow any view created to become a renderable view.

A view has to have been created as a 3D view in order to render it. You can even orient a 3D view to a plan view, and then render that. This creates some really nice site plan renderings.

When I pick the 3d view with the camera, it won't allow me to uncheck the "perspective" Is my sequence screwy?

you need to uncheck the "perspective" box before you set the view...
