Extracting furniture from main model

Got a project where we started with furniture in the central model for reference only. Now we've got separete FFE contract. Our interior designer will be working from another office location. I'm thinking that it'd be best to have separate RVT file where she can have the arch model linked, and we can link in her interiors. Does that make sense?
The big question is how best to create a new file with the current furniture?

You could copy the central file as detached, and delete all content, worksets, sheets & views that have nothing to do with the furniture. That way you'll have your levels & origin points already setup for you. Otherwise start a new file, create levels to match acquire the shared coordinates from the Architectural model and cut/paste the furniture from one file to the other. There's more then one way, and I'm not sure there is a "Best".
