Hey guys,
Typically we bug our door head & jamb details from our "Door & Frame Types". I set up a legend to show our door & frame types, but Revit won't let me bug from there. How are you guys handling your door head & frame details? Where do you bug them from?

I create elevation views, then are a sep. type called legend elevations, I create a filter to hide these in the plans, I drag these live elevations onto sheets and cut the sections from the real views.

Hmm, not toally sure I follow you on that. So you end up with bugs off of a view that isn't shown in your plan set?

Well, for this one I'm gonna go with bugging them from my interior elevations. But I know my PM is going to beat me up over not being bugged from our door & frame types. I'll have to put some more thought into this one.

So after thinking about this some more I'm guessing you are saying that you make an elevation view and then use vis-graphics to only display the door frame or what ever, then bug them there, correct? That makes sense. I made my "door & frame types" as a legend view, instead of an actual elevation view. Maybe I'll try the other way next time.

Correct, Live elevations of doors and windows are used, I show the wall still because the detail shows the wall. So I go for 100% accuracy. Takes more time than the legend view, and sometimes you move the door or window and have to recreate the view, but in the long run it has proven less prone to errors.

Hey Guys,

I'm sorry to interrupt, but when it says 'Bug' it really means 'Tag' right? Did a moderator mess with this thread or something, 'Find/Replace(Tag=Bug)'?

Cheers,
Jeff S.

This use of "bug" has me bugged, too.

Looks like 2013 now allows view referencing in all view types except schedules (obviously). So in legends now you should be able to place a section mark that references the particular door detail you need, using Reference Other View.

Can you explain? The section and callout tools remain unavailable in Legend views in 2013.

Didn't have 2013 open at the time, I was just reading the WikiHelp about View References. It said they can "now" be placed in all views except schedules and sheets, so I thought it was referring to a view mark referencing another view. However it was actually referring to the View Reference tool which we normally use on match lines to indicate the view number/sheet of the area on the other side of the match line.

Perhaps a View Reference symbol could be made to look like your standard section or callout heads.

This is a workflow that I've been able to use.

Create a new detail view, and name it "Symbol Copy Resource". Scale of the view is not important. This will be a source view for any "reference other view" detail symbols you might want to add into other views in your project at later time. Add a "reference other view" symbol, and choose the Referenced view you want. Place the detail symbol. Then select the symbol, and copy it to the clipboard.

Go to the Legend view, and Paste from clipboard. Then you can reposition and adjust the symbol as needed. Multiple symbols can also be copied and pasted at once as well.

Any of the "reference other view" symbols can be used in any other view simply by copying and pasting to the other view. Go back to your original "Symbol Copy Resource" detail view for the copy source. In this resource detail view you could also add text notes beside each detail symbol to tell you what the detail is referring to for ease of later copying and placement. I find this a little easier and less time consuming for some repeatedly used detail references compared to always starting the "reference other view" command from the beginning and having to wade through the long list.

^^^ HOLY SMOKES that works!!! I can't believe I never knew that could work for putting a referenced view symbol into a Legend view.

TIP OF THE YEAR right there!
