I have just started a new project and I have come across a problem which I cannot get my head around.
I have linked in a cad file into my new project which I got from the architect into a project north view which gives me this message:
‘’This project and the linked file do not share the same coordinate system. The link’s world coordinates will be aligned with this projects shared coordinates.’’ Which is fine.
My problem is the linked cad file comes into my PROJECT NORTH VIEW as it would look in true north.
I just want to know how to switch this around so that how it looks now would be in a TRUE NORTH VIEW.
Can anyone tell me what the correct procedure to set this up properly ?
Apologies if I sound confusing, I hope the attachment helps.
Thanks

I might not truely understand what you are asking, but just select the cad drawing, rotate it to the way you want it in that view and you should be good. From there line up any consultants links with your cad drawing and acquire coordinates. from there you should be good to go.

The message you got appears when you try to use Auto - by Shared Coordinates. The message is telling you that they don't share coordinates yet so Revit will import the file according to the WCS (World Coordinate System).
Starting from the beginning
Open the Site Plan view
Change the View Property: Orientation to True North
Import the cad file using Positioning: Auto - Center to Center
Move the file into position if it isn't really centering around the Project and Survey points that are visible in the middle of the view.
The cad file is now showing the True North orientation of the project and the Site plan view is matching the Orientation parameter with True North.
To define Project North
Use the tool: Manage Ribbon > Project Location panel > Position > Rotate Project North
You get several options in the dialog that appears
Choose Align selected line or plane
Click on a grid that represents the North South alignment of the project
Views that are assigned Orientation: Project North should now be oriented so the grid you selected is pointing North/South. If it isn't the correct orientation (180 degrees out of phase). Then use the command again, this time select the 180 degree option to "flip it around".
Any plan view can be assigned to one or the other True North or Project North, up to you once you've told Revit what the difference is.

Thank you very much steve, i cannot believe how easy that was ! just out of curiosity when I’m linking in a architects Revit model, is it best practice to copy the architects models Project Base Point and link it in using shared coordinates? Thanks alot
