ASD 2013 - How to create a circular steel column

I have created a chs column as a profile. Is there a way to create a chs column and beam

in the imperial library we have round HHS columns & beams. I'm sure you could modify the parameters to get the correct size and wall thickness from them. there's also a round beam family.
I see that I get the same options for metric in the OOTB families. I think you'll just need to create a new one if you can't find the one you need.
But you should see them in the OOTB content.

I was able to use bent profiles which seemed to work fine. (forgot to mention the beam was curved)

How about small straight segments. Even though ASD has curved profiles, it still approximates them with small straight lines.

First of all make sure you are using a compatible template with the correct units. Most (if not all) of the standard sections throughout the world are available from a series of databases. To specifiy what database you want to use select from Project Preferences, Profiles and Add a database (there are a couple of Australian ones at least). Once the database is in the dwg then it can be accessed for the profiles it contains. The database can also be moved up the list and the list can be tidied up too.
Then you can use List of profiles (next door) to load up the profiles you want from the database. Unlike Revit ASD does not care if the profile is a column or a beam - just get the family right when you place it.
Of course if you want a circular section outside of the standard then you will need to create it using AutoCAD regions (and boolean operations) before storign it away in a user database.
