Summary: Functionality that allows the user to create clash tests confined to a 3 dimensional zone within the building based on a selected mass object of any shape.

Description: I propose functionality that allows the user to create clash tests by a 3 dimensional zone within the building.

Benefits
This would allow the user to clash specific irregular shaped areas of the building that would more closely follow the construction sequence and schedule within areas (or zones). This could also eliminate having to break up subcontractor files into smaller files so that these specific area can be clashed.

How would it work?
The user could create the construction zones of any shape in the Revit model as generic masses. These masses would be recognized by Navisworks as an optional clash test filter or rule.

Assemble your Navis model by appending entire buildings or entire building levels as appropriate. Set up your clash tests as you normally would (mech vs. elec, mech vs. plumbing, etc) for an entire level, then select the Mass object representing the zone as a filter/rule condition.

Because all clashes have an X,Y,Z value, use that selected mass as part of a rule “I only want to see clashes that exist within the volume of the selected mass”. Or to more closely follow the “Rules” tab, “Ignore all clashes outside of selected Zone Mass”.

This feature would save us and our subcontractors countless hours of breaking up some of the files because we need to clash a specific area that follows the construction sequence and is not a rectangular shape like a section box. This time savings would be multiplied as subs correct their design and have to break up their updated files and send us updates.
