We recently upgraded to Revit Arch 2013, and the stair handrails are not showing on any plan views. They show on sections though. Could anyone tell me what I need to do so they show up?
P.S. The handrails are not hidden, I already checked.

Did you check the visibility graphics settings, or just 'Reveal Hidden Elements' light bulb at the bottom of the screen? Is your plan views set to course, medium or fine detail level? You might want to check your view templates as well.

Check the cutting plane of the view. It should be above the railing, with sufficient depth to show the railing

The view needs to be at a medium or fine detail level, they won't show if set to coarse.

I checked the View Range Option, Cut plane is at 4'-0", top is 7'-0", Bottom 0'-0" and View Depth is also zero. I played around with them and no handrails show. What is strange is that we created another stair in the same file with Revit 2012, and that one is showing the handrails

The issue was the coarse view.
Thanks!

We are having the same issue and noticed the switch to medium/fine detail level, however I cannot for the life of me get the posts to show, which is a little problematic because we use end posts for the railing extensions, and they are not showing. Has anyone solved this by getting the posts/balusters to show? Or will we have to recreate the ends of every railing with the new edit tools?

Posts do not show up on component stairs but do show up on stairs by sketch. I was hoping they would fix the bug with the first patch but they did not.

I found a possible source of the problem here:

http://whatrevitwants.blogspot.ca/2012/11/extents-of-revit-2013-railings-bug-when.html

Turns out when you remove all the balusters from a rail the "flip orientation" arrows don't know where to go and end up far away from the railing. I had problems with the railing not showing up at all in section views but when I flipped the elevation to look the opposite direction the railing would appear. The railings dlip arrow was behiond the section cut line so the rail wouldn't show.

Possible solutions:

1) add in baluster and then shut the balusters off in the section views

2) create small blusters that look like wall mounts.

I can't seem to find the thread, but another option is to make a new baluster family with nothing more than an invisible line in it and add it to the handrail only family. Workarounds...gotta love them!

Mike........You saved me! I never thought to tweak the cutting plane. Thanks a million.
