Summary: Split face is a very powerfull tool for specific purposes, but it is very limited to what objects can have split face. For example, beams can not get split face, but walls can.
It would realy be wishfull to be able to use this function on every type of families and geometry.

This function is very powerfull and can be used to get some very important information (BIM) out of the models.
