Base Views Replaced By Red Boxes

I have just started using the Base View tool to produce views of parts from my 3D model and some of the views are missing and have been replaced by red boxes. This is the second time it has happened and I cannot figure out what is triggering the problem. Any ideas on what is causing it or how to resolve the problem?

normally this is caused in my experience from the objects layer being turned off or the object being deleted. or if you have changed the object too much as in it has changed from a box to a 3d solid when you put a hole in it or you changed the layer it was in.
