I want to be able to model wood framing such as roof rafters sloped to match roof planes...Also, it would be nice to be able to edit the rafters with proper cuts . I need some direction as to how it can be done :banghead:

Donald,
Start with the tutorials on sweeps, either in-place or family based.
You can model any shape for the cut ends.
There are some rafter tails in Rugi also GO THERE (www.rugi.org/cgi-bin/roofexch.pl)

If you wish to model them all individually this can be done by creating a reference plane in the plane of the roof and naming it, then in a plan view setting the working plane to the named roof plane and simply drawing structural elements in as modelled components.
The beauty of this method is that you have real components that have structural properties associated with them and you can take off the length of roof timbers etc by scheduling, but also, if you need to introduce steelwork, or flitch beams etc, these can all be done with the same technique, these then look correct when sectioned etc.
The downside to this method is that sometimes the junctions between structural components make rather arbitrary arrangements when viewed indetail and that if you wish to shape rafter ends etc they have to be cut by a void.
