It is the shadows causing the slowness. You might consider making a View Template for "Shadows On" and "Shadows Off" and apply them as required for your workflow. We generally leave shadows off until printing time.

Does anybody know if there is a way to toggle all the views on a sheet to be less graphically heavy? In Adobe InDesign, you can change the preview option so that you see (a) high quality graphics, (b) low quality graphics, or (c) bounding boxes. When I have a sheet, usually one with a bunch of option set options, it gets pretty heavy and unwieldy. For example, if I'm working on a design option with multiple balcony configurations, I may have 4 elevations, 4 axons, 4 perspectives, and 4 plans on a single sheet, each with shadows. Each one is a different design option. Placing, moving, or modifying anything on that sheets is SO SLOW.
Any thoughts or suggestions?

Cliff, thanks for the reply. Dimitri had a the same suggestion (I was posting in the API section to see what people thought about an add-in for this functionality), but view templates would require a lot of management. We don't have view templates for every view. Probably should, but we don't.
Just wanted to follow-up on this because I think I found a workable solution. I was going to use the Display Model parameter to hide the model on all views of a sheet (select the views in the project browser under the sheet), but 3D views don't have that parameter. However, all views have phases... so I changed the phase and phase filter to existing (we aren't using phases on this project) and all the model stuff is hidden. Then I can arrange my sheet, close it, readjust the phasing of the views, and print! Not very elegant, but if it saves me time, I'll use it!
