I am using Map 3D 2013 and I have been banging my head on the keyboard trying to figure this out. I have a shapefile with an attribute called "MUSYM" which corresponds to a soil type. In short I need to color the polygons in the shapefile based on the "MUSYM". You can do this in GIS using categorized styling and a color ramp. I realize I can use thematic rules in the style editor (i.e. "MUSYM" = 35 ----> Orange) but I will have to do this for every MUSYM value which will be painful to say the least. Is there an *elegant* workaround for this or will using thematic rules be the easiest way? That being said I would really like to see categorized/graduated styling implemented in the FDO. It would make it a much more powerful tool.

So I figured it out. If anyone is interested you use the FDO style editor and click on "New Theme" This allows you to specify a range of values for a given attribute to which you can assign a either a built in color theme, or a color ramp. Actually pretty easy once you know what to do!
