Would someone using revit 2013 plz tell me the default file location for the family template files. I changed it thinking it was something else i guess and now i cant find it. Cant create a new family using the generic templates. I can work around it but not for long. I know a lot of computers may be setup different but I think for the most part revit has generic files on install that it puts on computer i just cant find the right one. A coworker has 2012 and the locations are different and files are different. help plz and thank you

That is the same location as 2012. however, in my C: I cant find program data. only program files and program files (86x) dont know where program data is :( didnt delete it i dont think. didnt delete any of that stuff while i was messing with it lol thx for the reply and attempt though. can you trace it directly from c: to prgram data? meaning, click on c: and up pops next file selection within c: and there is program data? I have uploaded screen shots of my same page you show here as well as my c: showing no program data option

Program Data is a Hidden Folder in Windows. You must enable view hidden folders. see attached.

Where did you find this?

Edit: C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2013\Templates\US Imperial , C:\ProgramData\Autodesk\RVT 2013\Family Templates

wondering...why did a search for for all *.rte files not reveal these templates?

As previously mentioned, ProgramData is, by default, a Hidden Folder in Windows. You have to turn on the display of hidden folders in order for Windows to search for files within.

Realized that after editing (first time) and didn't go in and re-edit again. I have the "disply hidden folders" in Windows explorer checked, but windows does not index the file for searching unless you are within in the hidden folder. Learn new stuff every day.
