For some reason when I use the "Show Hidden Lines" tool the lines that apear are solid. How can I change this so they show as hidden lines? That is the point of this tool, to show objects that are behind another object. We typically show these elements in a hidden line format. But right now I am only getting a solid line...
Any help here would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Couple of things to check. First is scale of the drawing and size of the object, maybe dashes are too big to show as dashed. Second is check "Hidden Line" settings in a object category under "Object Style" and see which linestyle is used. You can change it to make it more dense dashes or broader, depending on your requirement. R

The scale of the drawing has little to do with what is going on here... There are other lines within the view that show properly as hidden, just not lines shown for an object through another. I am assuming you meant to say check the Line Styles, not Object style. With Object styles I can set the appearance for a particular category, but I do not see a place to specify how it would look if shown through another object.
I could use the Linework tool and change the lines I have made show through, but that would be one more step. This is something I thought I remember doing in one step. I was thinking there must be a setting for what linetype shows when you select an element to show through. If not it will be a two step process...
any other thoughts would be great to hear.

I think pfaudler is right on both accounts. If you like the look of the other dashed lines in the view, then it is probably not the view scale. However, each category has a "hidden line" subcategory. Whatever you are trying to see behind has it's own "hidden line" subcategory so you can have different linestyles for types of objects. Check the "hidden line" subcategory under the Object Styles and you may find that it is continuous or uses a dashed linestyle that is too long.

O.K. The catch is found...
it is the fact each category has its own Hidden Line type, but not always do they have it to start... I was just thinking this rout, but preoccupied by other task... I wonder if this how this occurred, object style for each category for hidden lines would be set to solid when it requires it to created a new one (it didn't exist before using the tool) it uses the default of solid?
For now I know what to watch for.
Thanks...
