Have I just missed this all along in Revit? When I model a stair, it shows up in plan as model lines..?, but is 3D solid everywhere else? Something doesn't seem right, it should be solid like the floor tool to hide all the walls below it. I guess I can't do a "attach wall top" command from wall to stair...

No, wire-frame is not turned on in plan and there's no overrides on the stair. I've played with the view range as well. Essentially what I have is a balcony seating on a mid-level floor and the view range is set to that balcony floor at the usual 4'-0" and 7'-6" default settings.

thanks in advance for any insight.

If you model it as a floor, then you can attach the walls--but not if it's a stair.

Is there a chance we could get an image to help us understand whats happening?

Without an image, I'll take a stab at what you're trying to accomplish. It sounds to me like you're trying to model 'Stairs' in a theater, stadium or similar venue. I would create these as floors, or a mass (with applied floors). Since each tier of seating is going to have one, two or three stairs associated with it, you could try notching the floors to get the stair effect.

Best of luck,

I can't get an exact image since I was helping on someone else's machine. Sounds like you understand it regardless. It is balcony seating, I figured making it a stair would be better, but apparently not. I'll switch it to a floor, no problem. I should have done that to begin with instead of trying to be clever.

thanks guys,

One way to think about it is how it would be built in the real world--as a series of floors, with steps joining them, and walls extending down to the floor below each tier. So in Revit, that actually makes sense.
