So this bug didn't exist in previous versions, in fact Adesk has a tutorial on how to do it.
So here's the issue.
We have a model with many links from many consultants. Not all consultants are using all of the shared parameters in our model and vice versa. I wouldn't expect an MEP consultant to ask me to add a boat load of parameters to my model just for fun. I don't need them, I wouldn't use them.
Well, if you have a schedule that is set to include elements from a linked files and it's filtered by a shared parameter, and that shared parameter doesn't exist in every link in the model, Revit will crash.
I'm not sure what "Improvement" created this issue, but it's and issue and thought I'd pass it along.
Below you'll find Adesk's response. Base on current history, I'm thinking it might get fixed by 2015.
Don't you just love the new "features" they come out with.
Thank you for choosing Autodesk Support.
I understand when you try to filter a schedule using a specific shared parameter
and the Revit Structure 2013 project contains Revit links (with the schedule looking
in the linked project files), Revit crashes. I have found this issue can occur if you try to filter by a parameter that does not exist
in the linked file. Verify that the shared parameter, being filtered by, exists in all of the
linked project files.
This issue has been logged with our development group, and they are working to
address it in a future release of Revit.
