View Full Version : Wrap text in labels?

I have a drawing which requires me to put rather long labels on some reference planes (for equipment which will be installed later). I am trying to use annotation labels but I cannot seem to adjust the length of a line the label without the text wrapping. Does anyone know of a way to accomplish this?

Are you selecting the RP, selecting properties and typing the label in the Identity data Name box ?

If you use this method, rather than a separate annotation label, the RP can be identified as a datum for workplanes and element extents. The label in this case does not stay visible, but appears when you hover your mouse over the RP, or select it for editing.

The first image shows the label when the RP is selected. The second shows the label when the mouse is hovered.

Thanks for the quick response as usual Beegee. I want to label the RP's so that the labels will be printed on the finished drawings. Mabye there is a better way than using generic annotation labels?

Tomm,

For that you need to open your label family and modify the label box ( see image 1 ) so that it is long enough not to wrap the text when loaded into a family ( see image 2 ).

Sorry for the delay in replying, I was choking from embarrasment! I guess that was pretty obvious. Thanks for your help.

One thing that is not so obvious is how to get a 'soft' return into a label.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think that can be done yet.
Rather than having to create a label box with the exact width you require (and who knows that in advance?) you should be able to type, hit shift/enter and have the text go to the next line. The most obvious use for this is to create multi-line labels for title blocks, view titles, level names etc so we can type

LEVEL 3
TOP OF SLAB

in one label instead of two without using spaces to ensure a carriage return. Tabs would be nice too, but I don't want to get too greedy.

Did you see this post (http://forums.augi.com/showthread.php?t=13744), Dimitri?

Not sure if it works in all instances, but I found it did work on a titlebox label I have.

You won't be able to do it in a room tag label directly, but you can in a schedule. The penalty? Two lines in a schedule for that row. It's not very intuitive for another user unfamiliar with it.

Missed that one Andrew. Thanks for pointing it out. I didn't think of trying that because the Windows convention in Word and other apps is shift+enter.

Once again validating Scott Brown's AU mantra "just keep clicking until something happens"
(at least, I think it was Scott)

Thanks folks, another one for undocumented fuctionality

Click the label and make sure that the visible is checked and Keep Readable unchecked

Make sure to use spaces to break and the rest of the words should not have space (underscores can be used as alternatives)

I have attached a couple of families (annotative label and tag) with long text fields. You can just adjust the width as described within the family editor.

I don't yet know of a way to change the width from within the Revit Project, but that would be a great feature.
