1. Here's a file:
86679

When you open it, you'll see how I've set up my viewports. You can see the hidden lines of the hollow chamber inside the fireplace. If you then select those red/hidden lines, you'll see that they are drawn in on paperspace. I drew those because I couldn't figure out how to get Autocad to display the hidden lines. I can save a lot of time in the future if I can do this a faster/easier way, rather than tracing overtop of the object with hidden lines manually. It's a pretty straightforward question: How do I get autocad to automagically display hidden lines like the ones in my example fireplace?

Second question:
2. Perspective view in 3D drives me nuts. I always find myself having to switch back to Parallel view. In case you can't see the difference, try changing it yourself. Some people find this to be a minor different but it makes a big impact in the way that I draft in 3D.

Here's the question, is there any way I can get Autocad to remember that I like Parallel view and NOT perspective view?

Thanks in advance :)

The answer to number 1 is yes totally possible... I just can't remember which parameter will make it so... Activate a viewport and then type in "VisualStyles". It will bring up the Visual Styles Manager. Click on the style thumbnail to apply it. Each style will show parameters as things get turned on and off so play around with it / change some parameters. If you do a search on the internet and Augi you should find something useful. I found a few quick things looking for in the Internet using 'autocad showing hidden lines visual style' but I don't know the exact way to fix it... It will bubble up in my memory at some point....

Can't say on question 2...

Thank you USMC I got it to work. Wifreframe, in options there is "Occluded edges" - set them to hidden/dashed linetype. Bingo bango, done. Thanks bro :)

I didn't look at the file, but if you are using 2012 or later take a look at the viewbase command.
It allows you to create associative 2D top, front, side and whatever views you need of 3D object.

Oh...my...goodness...they set this up much more like Autodesk Inventor. Thanks man!

I've always found parralel viewing to be the default.
Perhaps you've changed it in your acad.dwt or acadiso.dwt or other template file.

Ahah - the acad3d.dwt sets perspective view as the default. If this is the one you are using, just open the dwt file, change the setting and save back to the original name.
(I don't use this template 'cause I don't like the background and grid.)
