Structural beam inside wall

Im trying to place a structural beam inside a brick wall. But the beam is not cutting the wall properly, when cut in section, both the wall hatch and beam hatch show up together. Tried joing the 2 elements but not being able to select the one or the other after 1st selection to join.

You will have to create an in-place void to cut the wall. Or you can use a wall opening.
